Biological Activity

Glycodeoxycholic acid sodium salt is a conjugated secondary bile acid and anionic detergent used to solubilize lipids and hydrophobic proteins. Bile acids such as glycodeoxycholate modulate signaling pathways involved in cell survival and inflammation, frequently triggering hepatocyte apoptosis via activation of protein kinase C and c-Jun N-terminal kinase pathways. Accumulation of glycodeoxycholate promotes oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cytochrome c release, driving downstream apoptotic cell death in liver tissues.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
