Biological Activity

Gallic acid trimethyl ether (eudesmic acid) is an O-methylated trihydroxybenzoic acid derivative that functions as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent. It attenuates cellular inflammatory responses through the suppression of the NF-kB and MAPK signaling pathways, leading to down-regulated pro-inflammatory cytokine expression. Furthermore, it modulates oxidative stress by scavenging reactive oxygen species and enhancing antioxidant defense mechanisms, thereby protecting tissues from oxidative injury. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
