Furagin is a synthetic 2-substituted 5-nitrofuran derivative that acts as an antibacterial compound structurally related to nitrofurantoin. Following intracellular enzymatic reduction by bacterial nitroreductases, Furagin generates reactive metabolic intermediates that disrupt bacterial protein synthesis, nucleic acid integrity, and metabolic pathways, ultimately inhibiting bacterial growth and survival across susceptible Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
