Biological Activity
Fructose is a natural hexose monosaccharide that acts as an essential metabolic substrate and energy source in cellular systems. Transported into cells primarily via the facilitative fructose transporter GLUT5 (SLC2A5), fructose undergoes intracellular phosphorylation by ketohexokinase (KHK) to form fructose-1-phosphate, feeding downstream glycolytic and lipogenic pathways to regulate cellular energy metabolism and lipid synthesis.
