Biological Activity

FOT1 (CN128) hydrochloride is an orally active hydroxypyridinone iron chelator that targets labile intracellular and systemic iron pools. By sequestrating excess iron, it attenuates iron-mediated reactive oxygen species generation and inhibits the accumulation of toxic intermediates resulting from iron-dependent dopamine oxidation. Consequently, this compound suppresses oxidative stress, protects dopaminergic neurons in models of Parkinson’s disease, and mitigates systemic iron overload. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
