Fostemsavir Tris is a phosphonooxymethyl prodrug salt that undergoes conversion to its active moiety, temsavir (BMS-626529), an HIV-1 attachment inhibitor targeting the viral envelope glycoprotein gp120. By binding directly to gp120, temsavir stabilizes a conformational state that prevents viral interaction with host CD4 receptors. This mechanism inhibits viral attachment and envelope-mediated cell entry, thereby blocking HIV-1 infection and replication. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
