Biological Activity

FINO2 is an endoperoxide-containing 1,2-dioxolane ferroptosis inducer that indirectly inhibits glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) activity and directly oxidizes intracellular iron. By suppressing GPX4 enzymatic function without altering GPX4 protein expression, FINO2 promotes widespread lipid peroxidation and accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species. These downstream metabolic disturbances disrupt cellular redox homeostasis, driving selective, non-apoptotic ferroptotic cell death in cancer cells. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
