Fenticonazole nitrate is an imidazole antifungal agent that targets fungal cytochrome P450 enzymes, particularly lanosterol 14α-demethylase. By inhibiting this key enzyme, it blocks the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption impairs cell membrane integrity and increases membrane permeability, leading to fungal growth inhibition and cell death in human pathogenic fungi such as Candida species.
