Etidronate is a non-aminobisphosphonate that exhibits inhibitory activity against protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs). By mimicking phosphate groups, it targets PTP enzymes to modulate intracellular tyrosine phosphorylation pathways. This enzymatic inhibition disrupts signaling cascades essential for osteoclast function and survival, ultimately suppressing bone resorption and inhibiting ectopic mineralization. Furthermore, its incorporation into cytotoxic adenosine triphosphate analogs induces apoptosis in bone-resorbing cells. [1]
