Biological Activity
Ethyl gallate is a naturally occurring phenolic compound and food additive with antimicrobial and pro-apoptotic activities. It activates the death receptor-dependent pathway of apoptosis by increasing the expression of caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9, while promoting cleavage of Bid. This cascade triggers downstream caspase activation and mitochondrial apoptotic signaling, ultimately suppressing cellular proliferation and inducing programmed cell death.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
