Biological Activity

Estramustine is an anti-mitotic and anti-microtubule agent that targets microtubule-associated proteins, including MAP1 and MAP2, to disrupt microtubule dynamics. By inhibiting the binding of MAP1 and MAP2 to taxol-stabilized microtubules and promoting MAP2-associated microtubule disassembly, it hinders proper microtubule assembly. Consequently, this disruption impairs mitotic spindle function and leads to cell cycle arrest during mitosis. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
