Biological Activity

Esomeprazole is a potent inhibitor of the gastric proton pump, specifically targeting the H+,K+-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells. By covalently binding to cysteine residues on the extracellular surface of the catalytic alpha subunit of H+,K+-ATPase, it suppresses the final step of gastric acid secretion. This inhibition elevates intragastric pH, suppressing baseline and stimulated gastric acid output to modulate acid-dependent gastrointestinal physiology. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
