Eleutherin is a natural pyranonaphthoquinone that acts as a catalytic inhibitor of topoisomerase II. By inhibiting topoisomerase II activity without inducing DNA cleavage, it disrupts DNA replication and chromosome segregation, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death in cancer cells. Additionally, eleutherin protects human umbilical vein endothelial cells from cellular injury in vitro. [1]
