Biological Activity

Echinomycin (Quinomycin A) is a sequence-specific DNA bis-intercalator and potent inhibitor of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) transcriptional activity with an EC50 of approximatelyin U251-HRE cells. By blocking HIF-1α/β heterodimer binding to hypoxia-responsive elements, it suppresses downstream hypoxia-induced gene expression and angiogenic pathways, thereby impairing cellular survival under hypoxic conditions.
