Biological Activity

DL-AP5 (2-APV) is a selective, competitive antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. By blocking NMDA receptor-mediated excitatory neurotransmission, DL-AP5 suppresses calcium-dependent synaptic responses and prevents long-term potentiation in central neurons. These cellular actions disrupt downstream synaptic plasticity pathways and neuronal circuit processing, leading to antinociceptive responses, blockade of synaptic excitation, and impairment of spatial learning and memory retention.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
