Biological Activity

Direct Red 80 (Sirius Red) is an anionic polyazo dye that selectively binds basic amino acid residues on collagen molecules and amyloid aggregates. Upon binding parallel to collagen fibrils, the dye significantly enhances tissue birefringence under polarized light microscopy, facilitating the precise visualization, structural appraisal, and quantitative morphometric analysis of extracellular collagen networks across normal and fibrotic tissues.[1][2]
