Biological Activity

Dinotefuran is a neonicotinoid insecticide that acts as an agonist of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). In cockroach nerve cord membranes, it competitively inhibits epibatidine binding to nAChRs with an IC50 of 890 nM. Direct binding assays demonstrate that dinotefuran targets high-affinity nAChR sites with a Kd of 13.7 nM. Activation of these receptors disrupts synaptic transmission, leading to insecticidal neurotoxicity and paralysis. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
