Biological Activity
4,4'-Dimethoxybenzil is a biochemical carboxylesterase inhibitor that targets human carboxylesterase enzymes, including carboxylesterase 1 (CES1) and carboxylesterase 2 (CES2). By suppressing carboxylesterase activity, it blocks the hydrolytic cleavage of ester- and amide-containing xenobiotics and endogenous substrates. This inhibition modulates drug metabolism pathways, preventing ester prodrug hydrolysis and altering xenobiotic clearance in hepatic cellular environments. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
