Biological Activity

Dihydroberberine is a hydrogenated alkaloid derivative of berberine that inhibits mitochondrial respiratory complex I and dual-modulates NF-kB and MAPK signaling pathways. Inhibition of complex I leads to AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation and improved insulin sensitivity. Suppression of NF-kB and MAPK signaling attenuates inflammatory cell infiltration and decreases pro-inflammatory mediators including IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
