Biological Activity

DIDS sodium salt is an anion exchange inhibitor and broad-spectrum chloride channel blocker. It directly targets anion exchanger 1 (AE1/Band 3) as well as various calcium-activated and voltage-gated chloride channels, effectively blocking transmembrane anion flux. Downstream disruption of anion transport impairs intracellular pH regulation and cell volume control, altering membrane potential and inducing cellular apoptotic pathways in various cell types. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
