Dicyclanil is a pyrimidine-derived insect growth regulator that acts primarily by disrupting larval cuticle formation and molting processes in insects. It inhibits the development and maturation of dipteran larvae, particularly Lucilia cuprina, preventing larval infestation and blowfly strike in livestock. By interfering with chitin synthesis and deposition during larval ecdysis, dicyclanil halts the progression of immature insect stages, leading to developmental failure and effective pest control in topical livestock applications. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
