Biological Activity

Diclofenac acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that acts as a dual inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) with relative equipotency. By inhibiting COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, it blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. This inhibition suppresses downstream inflammatory cascade signaling, leading to pronounced analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic biological responses. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
