Dextran is a biocompatible, non-toxic, and non-immunogenic complex branched glucan polysaccharide widely utilized as a macromolecular carrier in targeted drug-delivery systems. As a drug carrier, it enhances the solubility, stability, and circulation half-life of conjugated therapeutic agents while facilitating passive accumulation in tumor tissues via the enhanced permeability and retention effect. Additionally, dextran acts as a plasma volume expander that reduces blood viscosity and inhibits erythrocyte aggregation to support microvascular perfusion. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
