Biological Activity

Deoxypodophyllotoxin is a natural lignan derivative of podophyllotoxin isolated from Anthriscus sylvestris that displays potent antimitotic, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral activities. It inhibits tubulin polymerization to destabilize microtubule assembly, leading to G2/M phase cell cycle arrest. This disruption activates ATM/Chk2 signaling, upregulates p53 and Bax expression, and triggers caspase-3 and PARP activation, ultimately driving apoptotic cell death in cancer cells.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
