Biological Activity

Deoxynivalenol (Vomitoxin) is an orally active trichothecene mycotoxin that disrupts protein synthesis by binding to eukaryotic ribosomes. This ribosomal inactivation triggers the ribotoxic stress response and activates downstream signaling pathways, including MAPK/p38. Consequent upregulation of p38-mediated gene expression promotes leukocyte apoptosis and the release of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), causing gut integrity disruption and immune dysregulation. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
