Damascenone is a natural C13-norisoprenoid aroma compound characterized by an extremely low odor threshold of 0.002 ppb in water. Derived from carotenoid degradation, this potent flavor constituent modulates olfactory sensory signaling pathways and influences chemical defense responses. In cellular and biological systems, damascenone exhibits radical-scavenging properties and affects xenobiotic metabolic processes, serving as an important sensory biomarker and bioactive constituent in food chemistry and flavor physiology.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
