d4-Nicotinic acid is a deuterated isotope-labeled form of nicotinic acid (vitamin B3), a water-soluble vitamin and endogenous agonist of hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCAR2/GPR109A). Activation of HCAR2 inhibits adenylate cyclase activity, reducing intracellular cyclic AMP levels and suppressing lipolysis in adipose tissue. d4-Nicotinic acid is widely utilized as an internal standard and tracer in mass spectrometry-based metabolic profiling and pharmacokinetic studies.^[1][2]
