Biological Activity

Cytidine 5′-triphosphate is an endogenous pyrimidine nucleoside triphosphate that serves as a crucial substrate for RNA polymerases during transcription and RNA synthesis. It also acts as an essential energy donor and cytidylyl transfer intermediate in cellular phospholipid biosynthesis through the Kennedy pathway. In cellular metabolism, cytidine 5′-triphosphate plays a fundamental role in maintaining pyrimidine nucleotide pools, supporting membrane lipid formation, and regulating nucleic acid metabolic pathways. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
