Biological Activity

Cyclopentolate Hydrochloride is an antagonist of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, specifically targeting M1, M2, and M3 receptor subtypes. By competitively blocking acetylcholine binding to muscarinic receptors, it disrupts G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathways, including phospholipase C activation and intracellular calcium mobilization. This inhibition blocks parasympathetic cholinergic responses, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and downstream phenotypic effects such as pupil dilation and accommodation paralysis. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
