Biological Activity

Cu(II)GTSM is a cell-permeable organometallic inhibitor of glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β). By modulating intracellular copper levels, it inhibits GSK3β activity, leading to reduced tau hyperphosphorylation and decreased accumulation of neurotoxic amyloid-beta (Aβ) oligomers and trimers. Downstream, Cu(II)GTSM mitigates Aβ-mediated neurotoxicity, restores cognitive function, and demonstrates potential therapeutic utility in anticancer and antimicrobial applications.
