Biological Activity

Cu(II)-Elesclomol is a copper-chelating complex and a weak inhibitor of DNA topoisomerase I. Treatment with Cu(II)-Elesclomol effectively induces mitochondrial copper-dependent cell death (cuproptosis) as well as apoptosis. In cell models including K562 leukemia cells, this compound promotes DNA double-strand breaks and triggers G1 cell cycle arrest, resulting in potent anticancer activity. [1]
