Biological Activity
Coumalic acid is a bio-based 2-pyrone platform compound and versatile chemical scaffold utilized for the synthesis of bioactive molecules and targeted enzyme inhibitors. Derivatives constructed upon the coumalic acid core selectively inhibit tumor-associated human carbonic anhydrase isoforms IX and XII over cytosolic off-targets. Inhibition of these carbonic anhydrase isoforms disrupts pH regulation in hypoxic microenvironments, leading to altered cellular adaptation and impaired survival of tumor cells.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
