Biological Activity

Columbin is a diterpenoid furanolactone with potential anti-inflammatory activity. It target-modulates inflammatory signaling through attenuation of the NF-kB pathway, leading to down-regulated expression of pro-inflammatory mediators including inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). This regulatory pathway control suppresses cellular inflammatory responses and mitigates inflammatory damage in biological models.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
