cis-3-Hexen-1-ol (leaf alcohol) is a prominent green leaf volatile that functions as a plant defense signaling molecule and insect attractant. Airborne cis-3-hexen-1-ol is rapidly absorbed by surrounding plants and converted into functional glycosidic conjugates, such as (Z)-3-hexenyl vicianoside. This metabolic conversion activates and primes defensive signaling pathways against herbivorous pests, thereby enhancing plant resistance and suppressing insect survival.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
