Cefotetan disodium salt is a semisynthetic cephamycin antibiotic that exerts bactericidal effects by inhibiting cell-wall synthesis through target interactions with penicillin-binding proteins. Disruption of cell-wall peptidoglycan cross-linking impairs structural integrity, resulting in cell lysis and bacterial cell death. Cefotetan demonstrates in vitro efficacy against extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli bloodstream isolates, exhibiting an MIC50 of 0.25 mg/L. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
