Biological Activity

Cefalexine EP Impurity B (7-aminodesacetoxycephalosporanic acid, 7-ADCA) is a key beta-lactam core derivative and essential precursor used in the bioconversion and enzymatic synthesis of semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotics, including cephalexin. Serving as a primary nucleus substrate in biocatalytic acylation reactions mediated by enzymes such as penicillin acylase, it enables the formation of active cephalosporins that block bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan cross-linking to inhibit cell growth.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
