Biological Activity
(-)-Carvone is a monoterpenoid insect neurotoxin that acts as an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). By targeting AChE, (-)-Carvone disrupts cholinergic neurotransmission, impairing central nervous system function in susceptible insects and pests. This inhibition leads to downstream biological phenotypes including reduced larval growth, decreased pupation rates, and increased larval mortality, as well as bird repellency. [1]
