Biological Activity

Carglumic acid is an orally active, synthetic structural analogue of N-acetylglutamate (NAG) and a carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS1) activator. By mimicking NAG, carglumic acid allosterically activates CPS1, the initial and rate-limiting enzyme in the urea cycle. Activation of CPS1 promotes the conversion of ammonia into carbamoyl phosphate within the mitochondrial matrix, stimulating hepatic ureagenesis and facilitating ammonia clearance. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
