Biological Activity

C16-Ceramide is an endogenous sphingolipid ligand and activator of the p53 tumor suppressor (Kd ~for binding within the p53 DNA-binding domain). Upon binding, it modulates p53 protein ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation, leading to p53 stabilization and activation. This interaction promotes p53-dependent transcriptional programs, downstream caspase signaling, and the induction of apoptosis in cancer cells. [1]
