Biological Activity

BODIPY 581/591 C11 is a lipophilic fluorescent probe designed for detecting membrane lipid peroxidation and intracellular oxidative stress. Upon oxidation by reactive oxygen species within cell membranes, its emission wavelength shifts from 591 nm (red, reduced form) to(green, oxidized form), allowing ratiometric indexing of cellular lipid oxidation. This oxidation-sensitive fluorescence change enables high-sensitivity monitoring of lipid membrane damage, antioxidant efficacy, and ferroptotic cell death in living cells. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
