Biological Activity

BMS-378806 is a small-molecule viral entry inhibitor that selectively targets the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120, disrupting its interaction with the host CD4 receptor (EC50 range of 0.85–26.5 nM). By preventing gp120-CD4 binding, it blocks downstream viral attachment and host cell entry. It demonstrates specific activity against diverse HIV-1 isolates regardless of chemokine receptor tropism, with no activity against HIV-2 or simian immunodeficiency virus. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
