Biological Activity

Bisindolylmaleimide IV is a potent inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC) and cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA), while also potently inhibiting human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) replication in cell culture. By targeting PKC signaling pathways, it modulates cellular proliferation, gene expression, and viral replication processes. This compound serves as a valuable chemical tool for investigating PKC-dependent signal transduction mechanisms and developing antiviral strategies against HCMV infection. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
