Biological Activity

Bisindolylmaleimide VIII (acetate) is a potent inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC), displaying selectivity for PKC-α over PKC-βI, PKC-βII, PKC-γ, and PKC-ε isoenzymes. By inhibiting PKC signaling pathways, it blocks downstream phorbol ester-induced protein phosphorylation and suppresses cellular inflammatory responses. Furthermore, this compound regulates DNA synthesis and modulates cell proliferation and apoptosis in organ and cell culture models.[1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
