Biological Activity

Betahistine is an antivertigo agent that acts primarily as a histamine H1 receptor agonist and a histamine H3 receptor antagonist. By stimulating histamine H1 receptors and blocking inhibitory H3 autoreceptors, it promotes histamine synthesis and release in central and peripheral nervous tissues. This dual action enhances microcirculation in the inner ear, increases cochlear blood flow, and modulates vestibular nucleus activity, thereby alleviating symptoms associated with vestibular disorders. Solvent Solubility & Note
FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
