Biological Activity

Bergaptol is a natural furanocoumarin isolated from citrus essential oils that acts as a potent inhibitor of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). By inhibiting CYP3A4 catalytic activity, it suppresses the oxidative debenzylation and metabolism of enzymatic substrates. This targeted modulation affects hepatic xenobiotic biotransformation and downstream drug clearance pathways, thereby altering substrate bioavailability and cellular metabolic responses.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
