Biological Activity

Benzbromarone is a cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) inhibitor that binds the enzyme with a Ki of 19.3 nM. By potently inhibiting CYP2C9 activity within hepatic xenobiotic metabolism pathways, benzbromarone suppresses the oxidative biotransformation of target drug substrates. This inhibition leads to reduced oxidative clearance, elevated systemic exposure of co-administered therapeutics, and altered pharmacokinetics in biological systems. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
