Biological Activity

Azaindole 1 (BAY-549) is a potent, ATP-competitive inhibitor of Rho-associated protein kinase 1 (ROCK1) and ROCK2. By inhibiting ROCK signaling, it modulates actin cytoskeleton reorganization, smooth muscle contraction, cell migration, and stress fiber formation. Blockade of this pathway suppresses downstream LIM kinase phosphorylation and cellular motility, providing a useful tool for investigating ROCK-dependent vascular biology. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
