Avibactam sodium hydrate is a covalent and reversible non-β-lactam inhibitor of serine β-lactamases, active against class A and class C enzymes including TEM-1 and CTX-M-15. By acylation of the active-site serine residue via ring opening, it prevents the enzymatic inactivation of β-lactam antibiotics. Consequently, this compound suppresses bacterial resistance mechanisms, restores susceptibility in drug-resistant pathogens, and enhances the antibacterial activity of co-administered β-lactam agents. Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
