Biological Activity
Avibactam free acid is a potent, covalent, reversible, non-β-lactam inhibitor of β-lactamase enzymes, effectively targeting TEM-1 and CTX-M-15. By covalently binding to active-site serine residues in class A and class C β-lactamases, avibactam prevents the enzymatic hydrolysis of β-lactam antibiotics. This inhibition restores antibiotic susceptibility and suppresses downstream resistance mechanisms in Gram-negative bacterial pathogens. [1]
