Biological Activity

Aurintricarboxylic acid is a potent, selective allosteric antagonist of purinergic P2X1 and P2X3 receptors, as well as an inhibitor of topoisomerase II and viral neuraminidase. By targeting these receptors and nucleic acid-binding enzymes, it suppresses apoptotic signaling pathways and viral processing. Downstream of these pathways, aurintricarboxylic acid attenuates apoptotic cell death and demonstrates protective cellular phenotypes. [1]
